Abstract

Crystals of complex [Ph4Bi]2[(μ2-Br)Br3Ir(CH3CN)]2 (1) are prepared by the interaction of tetraphenylbismuth nitrate with sodium hexabromoiridate(IV) in water and subsequent recrystallization from acetonitrile. The crystal structure and structural features of 1 is determined by XRD. The structure consists of tetrahedral tetraphenylbismuth cations and binuclear centrosymmetric anions where two iridium atoms in an octahedral environment are bridged by two bromine atoms coplanar with four terminal bromine atoms. Two axial positions at the iridium atom are occupied by the bromine atom and by the nitrogen atom of the acetonitrile molecule.
