Preparation of Zirconia Coatings on Silicon Carbide Fiber by Metal Organic Chemical Vapor Deposition

  • Published:
Inorganic Materials Aims and scope

Abstract—

We have proposed a MOCVD process for producing thin yttria-stabilized zirconia (YSZ) interface coatings on Tyranno-SAK SiC fiber. Optimization of deposition parameters, such as the temperature, time, and gas flow rate, has made it possible to obtain uniform coatings. Optimization of experimental parameters has shown that uniform YSZ coatings with good adhesion to SiC fiber can be produced at a temperature of 600°C in a time as short as 1 h without impairing the tensile strength of the fiber.
