New data on determination of rare and trace elements in geological standards using inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry

Inorganic Materials Aims and scope

Abstract

Average grades of 39 elements are determined for ten Russian (Vinogradov Institute of Geochemistry) geological standards (GSs) with different compositions; some of the standards were not certified or had only recommended status. In addition, the grades of a number of certified elements (Ba, Sr, Ni, Eu, etc.) in early GSs (SG-1A, ST-1A and SGD-1A) are determined more exactly. The analysis is performed using the highly efficient inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) method. The ICP-MS method is described, including sample preparation procedures and other analysis conditions. The required metrological characteristics (detection limits and repeatability and correctness of assay results) are assessed. The grades of elements determined in the GSs can be helpful in analytical practice for calibration and assessment of the correctness of the assay results.
