Two types of ABi2B2O9 layered perovskite-like ferroelectrics

  • Published:
Inorganic Materials Aims and scope

Abstract

Statistical analysis of the literature data on the structural and ferroelectric properties of ABi2B2O9 layered perovskite-like compounds shows that these ferroelectrics can be divided into two distinct groups, one constituted by tetragonal and nearly tetragonal compounds, and the other by compounds with a significant orthorhombic (and possibly monoclinic) distortion. Surprisingly, there are no layered ABi2B2O9 compounds in a wide intermediate range of structural parameters.
