Effect of albumin and water-soluble analogs of vitamins E, Q, and K on the free-radical fragmentation of phospholipids

Abstract

The effects of trolox C, ubiquinone Q0, phthicol, and bovine serum albumin (BSA) on the free-radical fragmentation of dimiristoyl phosphatidylglycerol (DMPG) in model membranes subjected to the action of γ-radiation have studied. It has been found that ubiquinone Q0 and phthicol more efficiently (by a factor of ∼1.8–1.9) than trolox C (by a factor of ∼1.5) decrease the radiation-chemical yield of dimiristoyl phosphatidic acid (DMPA), the molecular product of DMPG fragmentation. BSA exerts a protective effect on the fragmentation of DMPG in a dose-dependent manner; at a lipid to protein ratio of 30: 1, the yield of DMPA is decreased by a factor of 2.
