Effect of supramolecular self-organization in water-ethanol mixtures on the S 2S 0 fluorescence of tryptophan

Abstract

The effects of the solvent composition, solution holding time, europium(III) ions, and temperature on the quantum yield of the S 2S 0 fluorescence of tryptophan was studied in water-ethanol mixtures. The possibility of radiative transition from the second excited singlet state S 2 of the amino acid to the ground state is governed by the self-organization of the water-ethanol solutions.
