Onset and nonlinear regimes of convection of an elastoviscous fluid in a closed cavity heated from below

Abstract

Thermal convection of an elastoviscous fluid in a horizontal square cylinder heated from below is investigated. For the description of rheological properties of the fluid, a generalized Oldroyd model is used. The study is based on a weakly nonlinear analysis and the solution of the complete nonlinear equations by a finite-difference method. The boundaries dividing the plane of rheological parameters into regions with different convection excitation mechanisms are found. The parameters of nonlinear convection regimes are determined.
