Abstract

A new peculiar species of the genus Thinophilus Wahlberg, 1844 is described from the Indonesian New Guinea. Thinophilus meraukensis sp. n. male keys to Th. violaceus, differing in a smaller size, darker hind leg, lighter fore tarsus with deep black, flattened and slightly widened segment 5, and some other subtle characters. An identification key to ten species from New Guinea and adjacent Australasian islands is compiled. New records are given for some known species. Thinophilus govaerei and Th. splendens are recorded from Indonesia for the first time.
