Abstract

The known fauna of Leningrad Province includes 68 species of the genus Stenus. Most of them have been recorded in 2–4 types of biotopes. The majority of species (97%) inhabits wet biotopes, in particular swamps and water body shores. Only 19% of the species occur in agrocenoses; among them there are rare mesophilous species S. nanus and S. assequens assequens. The species complexes in the forests are very similar to those in the populated areas. Of a total of 1056 specimens of the genus Stenus, more than half were collected in May and June.
