The “mechanical” aspect of recreational load, i.e., the effects of anthropogenic physical contacts on the biota is discussed. The influence of the mechanical aspect of the disturbance factor upon the defensive behavior of hortobiont insects was studied by the example of two coccinellid species with different ecologies. Species-specific strategies of defensive behavior were revealed: predatory species resort to the active strategy (easy falling and immediate resumption of activity), while mycetophagous species resort to the inert strategy (“reluctant” falling and slow resumption of activity, frequently involving thanatosis). In response to mechanical impact those reactions may be considered adaptive which minimize the time and energy spent to maintain the acceptable level of safety. Under recreational load, the rational energy and time budget becomes a priority.
