Abstract
The first illustrated description of the larva of the water mite Sperchon hispidus and a detailed redescription of the female, male, and deutonymph of the species, collected in a Crimean stream are given. The larva is characterized by the following features: the dorsal shield is elongate (the length to width ratio is 2.0–2.3), its posterior end is pointed; coxa II bears no setae, the anterior part of coxa II and the posterior part of coxa III form no transverse strips or ribs, the pedipalpal tarsus bears 8 simple setae: 2 long and 6 short.
