Abstract

A method for measuring the magnetic susceptibility of a single cell is developed and theoretically justified. The method is based on use of a computer-aided video recording of the integral curve of magnetophoretic motion of a cell settling in liquid medium near a thin vertical magnetic rod under the influence of a uniform magnetic field. The magnetic susceptibility of HeLa tumor cells and nutrient medium 199 is measured.
