Suppression of neoclassical tearing modes by a magnetic well in shear-optimized discharges

Abstract

The idea is suggested that the neoclassical tearing modes in shear-optimized discharges in tokamaks can be suppressed by a magnetic well. It is noted that this effect can be strengthened by shaping magnetic surfaces due to the combined influence of ellipticity and triangularity.
