Abstract

The solution is obtained to the Frenkel problem of determining the surface current on the boundary of an ellipsoidal region of space, equivalent (i.e., producing the same external magnetic field) to the simplest steady-state current specified in the bulk of this region. Simultaneously, multipole representations of pseudoscalar magnetic potentials of the volume and surface currents are determined in the framework of this particular problem. It is shown that these representations are completely analogous to the corresponding multipole representations of the scalar potentials of the ellipsoid associated with the volume or surface distributions of scalar sources (charges or masses).
