Abstract

Single-crystal samples of the Bi2 + x Sr2 − xy Cu1 + y O6 + δ system revealed anomalous (negative) thermal expansion in the temperature range 10–20 K. Magnetic fields of 1–3 T were found to strongly affect the position and width of the anomaly region. A thermal-expansion singularity was detected at temperatures T≈30–50 K, which may be related to the formation of a pseudogap.
