Influence of heterogeneity of an insulating film on its activation process and on the parameters of the thermally stimulated exoelectron emission observed from it

Abstract

The influence of surface heterogeneity of an insulating film on its exoelectron emission is investigated. It is shown experimentally that the thermally stimulated exoemission spectra of control samples and samples irradiated for the purpose of creating local regions with a higher electrical conductivity are substantially different, even though the combined surface area of the regions of the film having an irradiation-modified structure comprises an insignificant fraction of the total surface area of the film.
