Abstract

An analysis of the thermodynamic constraints on the possible development of chemically clean hypersonic wind tunnels (in which the air temperature remains below the oxidation temperature of nitrogen) yields the conclusion that the acceleration of the gas stream before entering the supersonic nozzle in these wind tunnels should be nonsteady-state. Thermodynamically ideal parameters are determined for this system and technical solutions are proposed.
