Abstract

Gas-phase synthesis of titanium carbide powders is described. A thermodynamic analysis is made to optimize the process parameters. Preliminary experiments were carried out using a system incorporating a cw gas-discharge multibeam CO2 laser and these demonstrated the advantages of the laser-chemical process over other methods.
