Abstract
The stochastic ionization of a relativistic hydrogenlike atom in a monochromatic field is investigated. Using Chirikov’s criterion for stochasticity, an analytical formula is obtained for the critical value of the external field for which stochastic ionization of a relativistic atom occurs.
