Abstract
The mechanism of electron acceleration in the stimulated Raman forward scattering of a monochromatic laser wave in a cold plasma is investigated theoretically. It is shown that as a result of the stochastic interaction of the electrons with the ponderomotive wave and with plasma waves excited in the scattering process, some of the electrons are accelerated to relativistic energies.
