Field evaporation of a Hf-Mo alloy

Abstract

The field evaporation of a Hf-Mo alloy (15 wt. % Hf) is investigated using a time-of-flight atom probe. A moderately heated tip detects an impurity of Hf and Mo oxides on the surface. Thermofield microprotrusions grown at T=1440–1850 K in an electric field (retarding to electrons) of intensity E=(3.2–5)×107 V/cm are analyzed at room temperature and above.
