Abstract

A solution is obtained for the equations of motion of a particle in the field of a traveling electromagnetic wave propagating between two pairs of metal surfaces of hyperbolic shape. The motion of the particle on excitation of the waveguide by monochromatic and pulsed voltage sources is considered. The possibility of applying a quadrupole waveguide to beam focusing and the separation of particles according to their specific charge and longitudinal velocity is investigated.
