Problems of modernizing the peripheral economy of the South Caucasus

The article examines the experience of implementing various strategies for regional economic policy in the North Caucasus. The main features of the institutional environment of the region are given, factors and reasons that hinder the modernization in the North Caucasus are considered and alternative strategies are offered, the basis of which, according to the author, could consist of capitalizing on territorial resources.
