Determination of surfactant molecular volume by atomic force microscopy

Abstract

The volume of a single surfactant molecule is measured by atomic force microscopy. Experimental data demonstrate good agreement with the calculated data. This approach can be applied to a large variety of surfactant molecules that form flat bilayer structures visualized by a microscopic technique.
