Abstract

This paper presents a discussion of noise sources in holographic vibration analysis and describes the effect this has when Modal Assurance Criteria (MAC) calculations are performed using holographically obtained data. It is shown that the random noise present at nonvibrating parts of an object can significantly reduce MAC values. The magnitude of this effect is examined experimentally, and the use of median filter smoothing is presented as a solution to the problem.
