Conclusion

It was found from experiments that the LC specimens could be used to monitor the surface temperature change but is not satisfactory in measuring the internal temperature change with the currently available experimental facilities. As compared to standard IR techniques, the LC coating is cheaper, and convenient in measuring complicated geometry. Advanced experimental devices with better spatial and temporal resolutions are required to investigate quantitatively the applicability of the proposed procedure, and the relationship between surface and internal temperature changes in real-time.
