Additional information

Insurrection is used as in the Concise Oxford Dictionary to mean 'rising in open resistance to established authority; incipient rebellion'. Thus, an uprising may be the first, intermediate, or last act in a revolutionary sequence, or alternatively, it may take place outside of the context of a revolutionary situation.
