Abstract

This article chronicles the experience of African trans women moving into trans advocacy in a more meaningful way and presents the rise of a movement for African trans women who fought to have their experience acknowledged within the domain of women and claiming their space in the feminist movement. It is written from the perspective of a coloured trans woman who was born and raised in rural South Africa during the apartheid years.
