Want to be an interdisciplinarian? For a start, don’t be a ‘playa hater’ of other successful scholars, just get in the game with them. Also, forget about ‘parity’ and realising some ‘frictionless imaginary’ of collaboration, for there will invariably be imbalances of power and influence. Don’t filter all exchanges through your ‘home’ discipline, nor insist that others be representative of everything that is right or wrong with their own. Note that if you are firmly committed to interdisciplinary engagement there is a good chance you may be the comparatively ‘weaker’ participant, so be prepared to take on the bulk of the ‘nitty-gritty’ labour and administrative ‘housework’, not to mention the affective labour required to sustain such fragile assemblages.
