Abstract
This article examines Lacan’s critique of American culture and contemporary psychoanalysis through his theory of the discourse of the university. Of special importance is Lacan’s analysis of scientism, consumerism, and the post-postmodern culture of narcissism. Lacan’s style and the history of his reception inside and outside the APCS are also addressed.
