Notes
James H. Cone, Black Theology and Black Power (New York: Seabury Press, 1969).
According to Delgado, Christianity’s “Rachel,” as a trope, represents hope in the midst of oppression and suffering. Similar to Puerto Rico over the centuries, Rachel’s Judah, one of the kingdoms that would emerge out of Israelites’ migration from Egypt, represents the liminality of a struggling community, much like Puerto Rico has been over the centuries. Puerto Ricans, according to Delgado, embody the colonizer and the colonized, which are worthy of forgiveness and of hope.
