Abstract

The resistance movement against globalization is a response to threats posed by globalization to society, to some of its members, and/or to certain widely held values. This resistance has put liberal globalizers on the defensive. The movement is eclectic, diverse, decentralized, and mobilized around very broad ideological precepts; its advocates rely upon certain strategies of action via non-government organizations and global civil society. Despite some of its more utopian goals, the counter movement has affected the conduct of and the prospects for liberal economic integration. The movement faces challenges still, especially in the post-September 11 world.
