Abstract

Support for victims of serious crime is an essential component of any comprehensive community safety strategy. In the light of recent developments, this paper assesses the evolving policy in one British probation service, through the eyes of the victims who received support and the probation officers and Victim Support workers who provided it. The findings are then considered in the light of the varied pattern of help provided in different probation areas.
