Greenwich Leisure Limited — The ‘third way’: From cuts and closures to expansion and success

Paper

Abstract

Greenwich Leisure Limited (GLL) is a ‘not-for-profit’ industrial and provident society with an employee-controlled board, and has managed Greenwich's leisure centres since 1993. GLL was the first of its kind. Twenty-seven other local authorities, including the cities of Bristol and Edinburgh, have since followed the Trust model and many more are considering doing so. GLL is one of the new ‘third way’ social enterprises being welcomed by Tony Blair.
