To maximize your scientific career, it is essential to establish research networks and build upon a multitude of mentoring relationships. At the heart of these networks, each scientist has the potential to benefit from the influence and satisfaction of being a mentor and a mentee.
Acknowledgements
I sincerely acknowledge the inspiration from two wonderful mentors: Sir Alan Battersby and Jean M. J. Fréchet. They taught me the power of networking and mentorship. Long-term support for mentoring activities from the National Science Foundation (NSF) through the Materials Research Science and Engineering Center at the University of California, Santa Barbara (DMR-1720256) and the Dow Chemical Company is gratefully acknowledged.
