Abstract
Paul Nurse, winner of the 1998 Albert Lasker Basic Medical Research Award for his work on the cell cycle, began working at the Imperial Cancer Research Fund (ICRF) as Head of the Cell Cycle Control laboratory in 1984. Twelve years later he was appointed Director General of the ICRF and now describes the origins, structure and goal of the UK's largest cancer charity.
