Abstract
INFECTIOUS swim bladder inflammation (aerocystitis) is a contagious disease of carp (Cyprinus carpio) causing severe losses in carp culture. The aetiology of the disease, which is characterized by pathological changes mainly of the swim bladder, has been widely debated. Various bacteria, especially Pseudomonas sp., Aeromonas sp., and Micrococcus sp., have been regarded as causative agents1–3 but all attempts to reproduce the disease with representative bacterial strains have failed.
