Abstract
DURING our investigation of the membrane systems of the ciliated protozoan Tetrahymena pyriformis, we have discovered a unique differentiation within the plasma membrane that corresponds to sites of discharging mucocysts, and we have been able to reconstruct a representation of the process of membrane fusion at the moment of discharge.
