New Unstable Haemoglobin Borås: β88 (F4) Leucine→Arginine

Abstract

Haemoglobin Borås has a mutation in which arginine is substituted for leucine in the haem pocket. The introduction of a positive charge into the haem pocket is probably avoided by the accommodation of the guanidinium group in an external crevice of the molecule.
