Abstract

MANY of the short lived chemical species studied by methods such as flash photolysis and pulse radiolysis are known to exist naturally as well as in the laboratory, and to play a vital part in many processes, including those in living systems. Hydrated electrons are possibly the most elementary of the species, and we have now used data on seawater to calculate the natural abundance of the hydrated electron.
