Abstract
Magnetic anomalies and fracture zones make distinctive patterns when the direction of sea floor spreading changes as has occurred repeatedly in the north-eastern Pacific. The mode of deformation is such that the spreading centres between transform faults become uniformly reoriented essentially perpendicular to the faults.
