Abstract
Falk and Kell1 have recently examined some claims which have been made for the existence of “higher order phase transitions”, “kinks”, and “discontinuities” in the properties of water and aqueous solutions between 0° and 80° C and concluded that in every case the size of the reported anomaly was comparable with the degree of accuracy of the experiments. We have now examined a few additional physical properties for which the reported discontinuities appear at first sight to lie outside the errors of measurement, and obtained new experimental evidence on one of these—the ultra-violet absorption of aqueous solutions of iodide ions.
