Abstract

THE different sensitivity of some phases of the mitotic cycle to the effect of low temperatures has been demonstrated on cells of human amnion cultured in vitro1. It was of interest to compare these results with the evidence of an analogous investigation of cell populations in natural conditions from in vivo experiments. Animals used were day old rats which had no complex thermoregulatory mechanisms2,3. All investigations were made on two types of cell population of the wall of the duodenum: renewing (intestine epithelium) and expanding (smooth muscles) cells.
