Abstract
EQUINE influenza virus was first isolated in 1956 in Czechoslovakia1; this original strain was called A/equi-l. A different type (A/equi-2) was recognized in 1963 in the United States2. For a number of years the A/equi-1 virus was apparently the only type responsible for horse influenza in Europe3,4.
