Abstract

THE development of microbiological technique for evaluating vitamin B12 concentration has made it possible to measure the wide variations in the quantity of vitamin B12 present in sera from humans in normal and various pathological states. By this means, the concentration of serum B12 has been found to be above normal in hepatitis1, cirrhosis2 and myelogenous leukaemia3, but below normal in pernicious anaemia4, total gastrectomy5, sprue6, old age7 and pregnancy8.
