Formation of New Intermetallic Phases in Binary Eutectic Systems by Drastic Undercooling of the Melt

Abstract

IT has earlier been reported1–3 from our Laboratory that some eutectic binary alloys solidify in an amorphous condition on rapid cooling from the liquid state. The present communication deals with new crystalline phases obtained by subjecting liquid alloys of eutectic systems to severe undercooling during solidification.
