Abstract
THE aim of my article was to show that the theoretical result derived by Cook1 (that the low-degree harmonics of the geopotential originate from the area of the core–mantle boundary) is in accordance with the results obtained by the reflexions of seismic waves from the core–mantle interface showing undulations of ± 200 km (ref. 2). It was shown also that the order of magnitude of geoid undulations corresponds to the gravity effect of the core undulation.
