Abstract

SEVERAL authors1–6 have examined the electrical conductivity of irradiated alkali halide crystals. When the ratio of the conductivity σi of the irradiated crystal to the conductivity σn of the normal crystal is plotted as a function of increasing temperature, maxima and minima are observed at several temperatures. In most cases the ratio σin remains less than unity. However, at the maximum, this ratio attains a value more than unity for X-irradiated potassium chloride crystals5.
