Abstract
RECENT work on absorption spectra and lattice spacings in the Al2O3–Cr2O3 solid solution1–6 has been in sufficient agreement to warrant a fitting of the optical results to the crystal field-splitting diagram7. The relevant terms are shown in Fig. 1, which also shows the transitions involved in the yellow and blue absorption bands.
