Abstract

A HUMAN spermatozoon contains an X or a Y chromosome, whereas every human egg contains an X chromosome. If, therefore, an X spermatozoon fertilizes an egg, the offspring is female; but if a Y spermatozoon fertilizes an egg, the offspring is male.
